The Faisal Mosque is the national mosque of Pakistan, located in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. It is the sixth-largest mosque in the world and the largest in South Asia. Faisal Masjid is located on the foothills of Margalla Hills in Islamabad. The mosque features a contemporary and influential piece of Islamic architecture, consisting of eight sides of the concrete shell. It is a major tourist attraction in Pakistan. Faisal Masjid was gifted by King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia and is also named after the King.
The Faisal Masjid finally completed its construction in 1986. The first prayer congregation on the premises was held on June 18, 1988. Since then, the mosque has been open to the public 24 hours. The grounds of the Faisal Mosque are filled with well-maintained lush green courtyards, porticoes, and fountains. There is a circular pond right in front of the mosque that leads to a larger pond and the staircase for the main prayer hall.
